ON October 15th extreme legends THE HAUNTED and death metal overlords AKERCOCKE will headline this year's DAMNATION FESTIVAL in the heart of Manchester. Ragga-punks SKINDRED and hardcore thrashers STAMPIN' GROUND will join them for the explosive gig, due to hit Jilly's Rockworld and Music Box in just over a fortnight from now.

Festival spokesman Gavin McInally said: "With the exclusive capture of The Haunted, Akercocke and arguably the UK's hottest live band right now in Skindred, Damnation Festival now offers fans the most diverse and genuinely exciting bill the UK will see this year.

"Italian jazz, raw punk and extreme death, all by seasoned and highly respected live performers - it's going to be an event to remember.

"Despite the legendary big names, we haven't lost focus on why Damnation Festival was born, and again, this year will also see some of the finest rising talent from our shores wow fans come October 15th. Evile, SpeedTheory, Kingsize Blues, Head-On, Murder One, Biomechanical and Mistress are a pick of England's finest, and we've even extended a warm invite to one of Scotland's top extreme bands in Madman Is Absolute."

The second instalment of UK-focussed metal will again take place across two stages in Manchester's Jilly's Rockworld and Music Box. Fourteen bands will grace the heavy JAGERMEISTER Stage and the even heavier TERRORIZER Stage.

A Terrorizer spokesman said: "We are proud to once again be involved, as the most brutal metal acts on the planet converge upon Manchester this October for Damnation Festival 2006.

"It's one more giant nail in the coffin of corporate rock."

Tickets for Damnation Festival 2006 are priced £15 and are on sale now through http://www.seetickets.com or http://www.ticketline.co.uk/ and in person at Manchester's Piccadilly Box Office, and Liverpool's Radio City Box Office.
