The Art Of Not Falling Apart CD-EP
Right from the start, there's only one name on your mind - Slipknot!! I mean to say, the opening track, "Crucify Me", just wreaks of that band right down to its arrangement, although to be fair, they provide a more harmony-laden chorus and manage to avoide the obvious excesses, but whichever way you look at it, there's no denying the influence at work. That aside, it's a solid, rip-roaring slice of metal and works a treat by virtue of rhe fact that they carry it off as though it had never been done before, and for that alone, they are to be applauded. "Justified" edges away from this a bit to become a bit more of a death metal wild ride, but the way the track twists and turns with its rifle-fire drumming and hammering bass thunder, plus staccato guitar riffing that fires off in every direction, provides it with a thrill and energy that really lights you up, while the combination of distinctly heard but roared verses and harmonised choruses, really keeps you hooked as it all holds together quite superbly. "Mark These Words" simply hammers away at lighning fast speed, this time the roots showing as much as in the first number and yet, still it sounds absolutely mind-blowing, while the EP ends on a remix of "Skin The Saviour" (yes, that's what I thought!!), as the track turns into a more industrial-sounding slice of metallic rock-dance that actually really hits the spot as it hammers up the dancefloor, admittedly sounds totally at odds with what's preceded it, but - hell - great music is great music, no matter how you assemble it. A red hot EP and well worth tracking down.
